"Clouds are brewing over Cadogan House, and recently turned vampire Merit can't tell if this is the darkness before the dawn or the calm before the storm. With the city in turmoil over paranormals and the state threatening to pass a paranormal registration act, times haven't been this precarious for vampires since they came out of the closet. If only they could lie low for a bit and let the mortals calm down. That's when the waters of Lake Michigan suddenly turn pitch-black--and things really start getting ugly. Chicago's mayor insists it's nothing to worry about, but Merit knows only the darkest magic could have woven a spell powerful enough to change the very fabric of nature. She'll have to turn to friends old and new to find out who's behind this, and stop them before it's too late for vampires and humans alike"--

This book focused on Jonah's relationship with Merit as well as the troubles that seem to plague the Cadogan house. But without giving anything away, I was really blown away with the ending. I never saw it coming. Looking forward to the next book in the Chicagoland Vampire novel.

From my perspective, the ending sucked. Why can't characters stay dead? Nevertheless, there are some great twists... and only die hard romantics will love the ending on this one.

Not the best in the series & it seems to end up taking two steps back as opposed to moving the storyline & characters forward. I was looking forward to seeing where Merit ended up as her world had undergone big changes in the last book but now she seems to have kind of stalled. Mallory, on the other hand, has turned her world upside down & both Merit & Catcher are having to deal with the fallout. When an author is writing a series, they can't all be great so I'll read the next one because I enjoyed the previous volumes.

Not as good as the others in the series---really missed the character Sullivan in this one.

I have issues with the ending, but it’s hard to articulate them without giving anything away. I was looking forward to seeing Merit progress in the path she seems to have begun to take. Watching her grow, move on, and accept new challenges. But the little surprise “gift” Mallory throws at her toward the end left me feeling distinctly bitter, like the ending of the previous book was a bit of a joke on the reader.
