A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright -- a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster. You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever -- ruined -- unless I can break the spell. Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.

If you liked the movie, there is no guarantee that you will like this book as well. Both the movie and the book are decent, but very different from each other. This book is basically your average teenage romance novel. It can be a little cheesy at times, but the overall story is pretty good. In my opinion, it is one of the better teenage romance novels out there. I understand that it was written for young adults, however it feels like the author is trying too hard to relate with teenagers. For example, each major section of the book begins with an online chat room dialogue. For me, this was a little too cheesy. It dumbed down the book and was also very annoying to read (many of the words were written using text lingo). Even though it’s not one of the best novels I’ve ever read, this book is still worth reading.

The book is much better when you read it, having it read to you is not so good.

A plodding audiobook thanks to the lackluster reader, and that's a shame, since the book itself is excellent.
