Very akward movie..

Best serves its purpose when used as grounds for a drinking game.. Simply drink everytime you notice the camera refocusing zooming in or out Mid SHot.. It is very distracting.. Use a light beer otherwise you wont make it through the movie, which I guess wouldnt be such a bad thing.. John C reilly doesnt live up to his career roles, Jonah Hill is well the only charachter he knows how to be, and Marissa Tomei is beautifull as always.. C maybe c- movie. Watch it return it forget about it. ; )

strange

Is it a coming-of-age story about an immature man-child? Is it a quirky family dramedy? Is it a romantic comedy about rivals? Cyrus can't seem to make up its mind about what kind of movie it wants to be, and the result is a semi-sweet, but mostly frustrating, confused film from the Duplass brothers. John C. Reilly is a fine muse for the Duplass brothers who like writing movies about sadsack, middle-aged men who seem a little lost. Marisa Tomei, who was hysterical in Crazy Stupid Love, just keeps getting better with age, looking utterly lovely. As the movie's namesake Cyrus, Jonah Hill is fully committed to his role as the creepy, immature, mother-loving son of Tomei's Molly. Good performances in a sloppy film.

The problem with “Cyrus” is its inconsistency. It starts out as a downright comedy, then eases into a light romantic comedy, and finally ends up as a family drama. This shift takes away from the film. It is a shame because I truly believe that this movie had the potential to be much funnier.

Marisa Tomei is lovely, as always, in this otherwise pedestrian character drama. But what her character sees in the two slobs played by John C. Reilly and Jonah Hill is beyond me.

decent, that is all, nothing great, not really funny, kind of strange actually.

Waste of time!

A decent movie about relationships and how bizzare they can sometimes be, while still overlooking/overcoming such obstacles.

Have you seen, Walk Hard. That was funny, but, this moved slow, not really my type of comedy either.

Cyrus: John, I have to apologize to you.
John: What?
Cyrus: I mean, you came in and I sat you down and I just started blabbing all about my life. I get overly excited sometimes and I apologize. I honestly am curious to hear about you.
John: Well, uh, let's see, um... I'm an editor.
Cyrus: I don't want to know what you do. I want to know what you are, who you are.
John: Ok... I'm divorced. It wasn't my idea. You know, I got left. And I've been in kind of a dark existential place to tell you the truth. And then I met your mom at a party and, I don't know, things are looking up for the first time in a long time.
Cyrus: So, are you going to stay the night?
John: Maybe we should ask your mom, I don't know.
Molly: I think that's between me and John.
