My first-grade granddaughter loves this Perfectly Princess series, and so do I. The 6 books are well written, and deal with kid issues -- without being preachy.
In each book, the reader can see herself solving a different tricky school or home situation.
I like that the kids in these books reflect today's mixed ethnicities.

In this book, both Korean-American Kristina and her Korean grandmother learn they can truly share their different ideas -- without hurting each other's feelings.
I wish Alyssa Crowne would write more such books.

For mid-school kids, I like Andrew Clements' books.
