Wow, what incredible story telling talents this author has. It's not completely conventional, not the way she tells it or the characters she creates, there are some strange goings on and some unconventional ways of expressing that but the story is absorbing, the farther you get the more you are pulled into these lives and this story set up North.

This is the first book by Elizabeth Hay that I've read. I really enjoyed her writing. It's beautiful. The descriptions of the North and its land is spellbinding. I felt that I could actually see it.
I didn't feel engaged with the main characters, though. They had their interesting moments but in the end I didn't feel that I got to know them much. They seem to float through the book without leaving much impact (on me).
I would read more of Elizabeth Hay's books. Her writing is worth reading and savoring.
