Not sure if the manuscript was proofread with more than MS Word (yeah, I'm nit-picking), but it is an enjoyable read and very obviously a commentary on the War Against Terror.
The plot is well constructed and very believable. The dialogue is pretty crisp, filthy in some places, but it fits a bunch of mid-grade officers who have seen horrors and want to keep them from returning.
It's not a terribly profound book, but the author tries hard to show different POV's fairly and there is nothing absurd or ridiculous about anything that was written.
It's certainly good enough to make me check out more of Turtledove's work.

Fun read what-if story that has Reinhard Heydrich surviving his assassination attempt by Czechs and ends up running the resistance after World War 2 ends, paralleling US occupation of modern day Iraq.
