AN HBO (R) LIMITED SERIES STARRING AMY ADAMS

FROM THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF GONE GIRL

Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: she must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful thirteen-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims--a bit too strongly. Dogged by her own demons, she must unravel the psychological puzzle of her own past if she wants to get the story--and survive this homecoming.

Another great page-turner by Flynn. The proof? I spent an entire day reading this book instead of getting anything at all accomplished. I was feeling pretty cocky that I had the denouement all figured out, but as it is with all of this author's books, there was a huge twist at the end that I didn... Read More »

I enjoyed this novel very much! I love Flynn's style of writing that keeps you in suspense and on your toes the entire time! The author's style of writing makes you think you how everything will end, but there are surprising twists!

I wasn't a huge fan of this. Gone Girl was way better. The writing and subject matter was quite dark.

I was enraptured from the beginning, in a way I wasn’t with Gone Girl or many other books nowadays. The characters are brilliantly written and credible. Best leisure book I’ve read in a while!

She creates impossible characters, and it really shows in the movie. I read this thinking, "how does such a malfunctioning character have such successful status in her life?" and it's never explained. The younger girl in this story is hard to believe, because of the same reason, and in the end reveals a complicated plot that could not be thought of by someone with such issues. Once again, she underestimates the power of the FBI and thinks that they have no clue about anything ever. Horribly misinformed.

So disturbing and so well written. Creative and great twist in the plot!

One of the best and most messed-up books I've ever read. I thought the Book would end abruptly, but it hits you like a brick wall. A book that you have to take a cold shower after reading (or a cold bath with some rubbing alcohol).

“People got such a charge from seeing their names in print. Proof of existence. I could picture a squabble of ghosts ripping through piles of newspapers. Pointing at a name on the page. See, there I am. I told you I lived. I told you I was.”

“I'm here, I said, and it felt shockingly comforting, those words. When I'm panicked, I say them aloud to myself. I'm here. I don't usually feel that I am. I feel like a warm gust of wind could exhale my way and I'd be disappeared forever, not even a sliver of fingernail left behind. On some days, I find this thought calming; on others it chills me.”

"I'd known little about Mrs. Roosevelt, except that she was good, which at the time I suppose was enough. Given my druthers now, I'd prefer a snapshot of Warren Harding's wife, 'the Duchess,' who recorded the smallest offenses in a little red notebook and avenged herself accordingly. Today I like my first ladies with a little bite.”
