You'd think that, with the generally ingratiating qualities of Strauss' music (this notwithstanding, there are many moments of grit, power, and character as well), the designed story would be a sweepingly sweet one. No, lo and behold, the villain is an abuser. I applaude the series for showcasing a wide range of scenarios that children could face. For instance, in the Carmen episode, the young girl has to deal with issues that concern (in)fidelity in adult relationships. This one is done most admirably. As for the musical presentations, the Slovak musicians play beautifully. Though they are not the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the performances are all cultured and refined. Now, I am not sure if the actual cause(s) for composing The Tales from the Vienna Woods is exactly as portrayed in the film; but, what a foil, as it is rendered here. Lovingly recommended, as it does have a lovely ending.
