USA TODAY bestseller from the author of The Mountain Between Us, now a major motion picture!

A man with a painful past. A child with a doubtful future. And a shared journey toward healing for both their hearts.

It begins on the shaded town square in a sleepy Southern town. A spirited seven-year-old has a brisk business at her lemonade stand. But the little girl's pretty yellow dress can't quite hide the ugly scar on her chest.

Her latest customer, a bearded stranger, drains his cup and heads to his car, his mind on a boat he's restoring at a nearby lake. The stranger understands more about the scar than he wants to admit. And the beat-up bread truck careening around the corner with its radio blaring is about to change the trajectory of both their lives.

Before it's over, they'll both know there are painful reasons why crickets cry . . . and that miracles lurk around unexpected corners.

If I could,I would give this book a 20 star rating! The "heart" is powerful on so many levels.

My favorite of all C Martin's books! What's not to love? His character's lives are woven together beautifully as we take this journey with them. It's about failing hearts and broken hearts and the heart of a town for it's own. I actually read this twice and would recommend the audibook on Hoopla. The river, the town, and the characters are all part of this masterfully told story!!

I enjoyed Mr. Martin's detailed description of his surroundings. The characters were fully alive and I was remiss when the story was over, because I wanted to find out what happened to them next! A wonderful story of healing and triumph.

This book was a decent read but followed a pretty set formula and got a little too preachy for me. I did enjoy the characters and the medical backdrop was interesting as well.
