Gripping novel; movie stars a young Drew Barrymore

Having seen the movie I decided to read the book and did think it added a lot of the details that the movie missed.
I agree it is classic early Stephen KING. I found it very enjoyable.

Your typical early Stephen King novel, lot of similarities to Carrie in this novel, but it was entertaining. An oldie but goodie!!

Hmmm, maybe I read it at a certain time in my life which colored my reading. I had just finished Shutter Island, which I found to be superiorly written in every way. Plus, I had such high hopes because The Shining is a favorite book of mine. I found the subject matter fascinating but the telling of the story was good, but not great. Still definitely a page turner, and worthwhile too, but I was just a tad disappointed in King's storytelling abilities this time around.

Really absorbing. Dramatic, exciting.
Avoid the movie. Drew Barrymore and George C. Scott both miscast.
