I loved this book! I was sad when I got to the last disc that the story would soon be over. The reader was magnificent, bringing to life a diverse cast of characters. A good glimpse into Indian culture and expectations. I highly…

I didn't like this one as much as Secret Daughter, but overall, a good read. The book is a bit depressing at times, nothing seems to be going right, but it does pick up and the ending brings it all together nicely. Quite an array of…

My third book by this author...bonus she's Canadian...always a perk. Enjoyed this book as much as the other two. Always interesting to read about different cultures. We take so much for granted and this book reaffirms that. …

Engaging writing. Weak lead character with strong female characters. Could possibly be a good movie and a case where the movie is better than the book.

BOUGHT THE BOOK. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It gave me movie vibes. I really like the lesson you learn at the end (while understanding that some people may have limitations in this area) that you can and should try to…

I rather enjoyed reading this book. We got a glimpse of the clashing of the Eastern and Western ideas and traditions. Anil is in the USA, studying to become a Doctor, it is here where he sees the drastic contrast between technology,…

I really enjoyed this book as I get to know more about the Indian culture and traditions. Its contrast with American culture in Texas was also very interesting. Being the first born son in a large rural Indian family, Anil’s life was…

This was a great flow between two countries and enabled the reader to experience a comparison of cultures. Not a predictable ending which was what makes it a great read.

This book which takes place partially in Texas and partially in India was a good, very readable story that will be enjoyed by anyone who likes to be immersed into other cultures. I am a bit critical of what I consider to be numerous…

An okay to good book, but I wouldn't recommend it. While it does give a peak into the Punjab culture I found the storyline predictable.

We use the term "golden son" in my culture. As soon as I saw the title, I had an inkling about what the book would be about. I really enjoyed this book. I found it to be culturally interesting and the pages flowed nicely. I haven't…

I liked Gowda's second book almost as much as the first. The characters and storyline were well developed, and not predictable. At times, it felt like the action was slow paced in the middle of the book.

4.5 stars. A story of family, friendship, and love that also examines the many differences between North American and Indian cultures. The two protagonists were wonderfully fleshed out and the large cast of surrounding characters were…

What I love about Shilpi Somaya Gowda's books, aside from the extraordinary storytelling, is that they open windows for me to peek inside of cultures and experiences outside of my own. Somewhere I heard that one benefit of reading is that…

I enjoyed this book --- read it in one Sunday. Hard to put down. It has lots of interesting subplots about life and customs in Dallas and in India. The main character goes from a life at the top of the chain in India, to being subject…
