Description

This 8-week program is designed to equip newcomers to Canada with practical, transferable skills that are essential for both everyday life and professional environments. Throughout the program, newcomers will gain insights into Canadian cultural norms and social etiquette, allowing them to navigate casual and professional interactions with confidence. The program will focus on enhancing communication in daily situations, such as ordering food, asking for directions, and engaging in small talk—skills that help newcomers feel more comfortable and integrated into Canadian life.

Additionally, the program will emphasize key professional communication skills, including making phone calls, writing emails, and participating in meetings. A particular focus will be on job-search skills, such as preparing for interviews, engaging in workplace conversations, and networking effectively. The program will also explore the importance of non-verbal communication, including body language and facial expressions, ensuring newcomers can communicate clearly and appropriately in various contexts. Moreover, strategies for problem-solving and conflict resolution will be taught, helping newcomers handle misunderstandings or difficult conversations with confidence. By the end of the 8 weeks, participants will have developed a strong foundation in communication skills that are vital for successfully integrating into Canadian society and thriving in their careers.

The main objectives of the program are to:

  • Enhance learners’ fluency and accuracy in spoken English for everyday and professional use.
  • Build participants’ confidence in handling workplace conversations, meetings, and networking situations.
  • Teach appropriate communication styles for various contexts, including formal and informal interactions.
  • Develop essential soft skills such as active listening, tone of voice, and awareness of personal space and body language.
  • Improve key workplace communication skills, including professional phone etiquette, effective email writing, and job interview techniques.
  • Prepare newcomers to succeed in English-speaking work environments by fostering practical, culturally appropriate communication skills.
