Join us for an interactive djembe drumming performance. Learn about how the djembe is made and where it is from. I will also talk about it being used as a means to communicate. It will also be an interactive session where those watching may be asked to participate in helping to build different rhythms.
About the Artist:
Richard Best started working with VibeArts (formally Arts for Children and Youth) in early 2000. Over the years, he has worked with countless children and adults teaching African Drumming Workshops across the GTA. His noted credits include working and performing with the award winning Indigenous artist and musician David R. Maracle. More recently, Richard had the opportunity to create the music for 3 independent documentary films by Jeanette Kong. They are: 'The Chiney Shop', 'Half: The Story of a Chinese Jamaican Son', and 'A Brief Record of My Father's Time at Sea'.
