What is Autism and Other Comorbidities Disorder, What is Therapy? (2 part series)

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Description

** Please note: This is a 2 part workshop; therefore, please try to attend both sessions.**

Part 1: What is Autism and other Comorbidities Disorder

Results from the Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth (CHSCY) indicated 1 in 50 Canadian children and youth are affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in 2019. This workshop provides caregivers/ educators information on:

  • What is ASD?
  • What other comorbid conditions do individuals with Autism experience?
  • How to help, how we learn?

Most importantly, understanding and appreciating “the beauty and uniqueness of individuals on the spectrum".

Part 2: What is 'therapy'

Many caregivers struggle with “how, what, and which therapy should I start with my child?” Child-led approach? Structured format? Play-based format? All of them?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is commonly used to teach individuals with autism a wide range of essential and necessary skills. This workshop will discuss how Clinical ABA Intervention and other approaches can be used to teach new skills and improve existing behaviours leading to meaningful changes for an individual or their family. Families and educators will learn about:

  • What is a holistic Clinical ABA approach?
  • Why ABA is not only for “behaviours”?
  • The assessment process for an ABA-based program
  • What to expect during the ABA therapy process?
  • Various other types of therapies and learning approaches

This 2 part series workshop is run in partnership with Aspiration & Discoveries Therapy and Education Centre
